Carole Meyer’s inspiration for Zookz dates all the way back to her childhood in North Africa, where she was raised in a multicultural family that took pride in preparing meals from scratch with the freshest and finest ingredients.
It was Carole’s grandmother who introduced her to what have become Zookz “best sandwiches a’round,” which in those days were toasted over an open flame on a small, stove-top cooking device. For Carole, her grandmother’s warm crunchy creations were the ultimate sandwich – round, sealed and toasted, comforting and delicious.
Decades later, after a variety of other successful culinary pursuits, Carole developed a commercial cooking device that enabled her to offer the sandwich creations of her youth to the masses. Now that Zookz sandwiches can be prepared with amazing efficiency, Carole is able to share her grandmother’s comfort food with today’s ever on-the-go consumer, who wants quality and taste above all, but is unwilling, and often unable, to compromise convenience. Everyday in Phoenix, she continues her grandmother’s tradition of creating, from scratch, truly unique sandwiches that are filled with healthy, fresh ingredients and lots and lots of love.

In 2013, Jennifer Russo relocated her catering operation of 19 years, to Gaslight Square on 36th Street and Indian School Road, and into a space that once was wine storage area for Ernesto’s Backstreet wine bar. In developing her new catering concept, Jennifer quickly realized the end result was that she would soon be, both a caterer and a restaurateur.
On January 16, 2014, The MARKET by Jennifer’s RESTAURANT+BAR was opened. Under the direction of long time friend Richard Fiero, (previously of Barrio Cafe), Jennifer and Richard developed a space that is both casual and elegant with a menu that incorporates locally grown, sourced, and crafted ingredients.
